Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano rising to approximately 4,566 metres (14,980 ft) and located about 70 km west of Mount Kilimanjaro. As the second-highest mountain in Tanzania and the highest in Arusha Region, it offers a less-crowded and wildlife-rich climbing experience that serves both as a standalone trek and an excellent acclimatization hike before attempting Kilimanjaro. Most climbers ascend via the Momella route and complete the summit in three to four days while passing through montane forest, moorland, and volcanic crater zones with the summit providing striking views of Kilimanjaro on clear days
